I’m a Professional Artist

I love my new book, I’m a Professional Artist, which tells the story of how I make art for a living! I have been illustrating and designing children’s books for Wilbooks for many years now but this is the first book that I wrote, with the help of Bruce Larkin. I’m a Professional Artist, written for a grade 2 reading level, tells of how I started drawing as a kid and how I made a career out of it.

Here is a great review by Jim O’Connor:

Mine and my sister’s copy of Jim Mchugh’s “I’m a Professional Artist” came today. I was so stoked I left the front door wide open.

It is a children’s book showing the progression of Jim’s work and why he is an artist. As an “adult”, it was still nice seeing the evolution of his work, he included some older pieces as well as recent illustrations with a wide range of style. “Can you see how much my art changed as I grew older?” He certainly had natural talent at a young age but came into a look of his own as he honed his skill through education. He also touches on how he now works digitally for commercial art, and asks the kids if they have ever made art on a computer. I thought that was a great question for obvious reasons. A short read but one that will stick with you and your kids seeing someone do what they love (and succeeding).
