This is the tiniest I could draw with a mechanical pencil for today’s #365challenge. I tried drawing smaller but the details were lost.

Ok, by request I took another pic of the fairy further away and with a more recognizable coin. Before the request, I tried to outline her with a Micron 005 pen but I’m not happy with how she looks now. I liked the pencil better Then I tried to draw her even smaller!

  • 365 Challenge Day 13

#365challenge today I painted with coffee, tea, and a little bit of marker. Erin and I started Movie Night Monday for the new year, we’re watching a movie for every state. Last Monday we watched Selma for the first time, a movie as Erin said, that every American should see.

  • 365 Challenge Day 12

Today’s #365challenge prompt is camouflage. The other day around dusk, I was in the backyard and I heard a woodpecker. I saw her running up the tree and then stop in the crook. I thought I lost her but she just sat there, blending in as the sun went down. I checked again a while later, just as it was getting too dark, and could make out the silhouette of her beak.

  • 365 Challenge Day 11

#365challenge work with your non-dominant hand. The man was drawn with my right hand and the horse with my left, of course. The proportions are spot on!

  • 365 Challenge Day 7

Day 7: make a stencil and use it in your work. I made this 4-headed hydra with a cut out of one of the heads. #365challenge #sketchoftheday

  • 365 Challenge Day 6

Today’s #365challenge is to work with a fruit or vegetable. Sorry, I’m not much of a sculptor. In art school for a 3D design project I made a toaster out of a loaf of bread. I carved out two holes in the top and with the help of my stepmom got a cord from a thrift store to give it a plug. My teacher loved it but it was still pretty bad.

  • 365 Challenge Day 5

Today’s #365challenge is to use items you collect. Erin and I have a big collection of plastic animals, all organized neatly in different categories. I chose the woodland creatures as they are some of my favorites, especially the big bear with the goofy red eyes.

  • 365 Challenge Day 4

Inspired by Andy Goldsworthy, here’s yesterday’s #365challenge (I couldn’t do it then because it was raining.) The prompt was to take a walk and make something with materials wherever you end up. Since the yard needed to be raked, I skipped the walk and made this guy. Our backyard was covered in pine needles (Summerville’s slogan is ‘Flowertown in the Pines’) and I was thinking of all the little hidden squirrel treats I was uncovering while raking.

  • 365 Challenge Day 3

Day 3 of #365challenge is to make something out of paper without using scissors, glue, or drawing on it. I’m not good at origami but Erin reminded me that I once made a cobra for a board game challenge (maybe Quelf?) so I recreated that.

  • 365 Challenge Day 2

Today’s #365challenge is inspired by a favorite animal. It’s hard to pick one, I haven’t met an animal I didn’t like… except snakes but they’re cool. This elephant is similar to ones I illustrated in a series for Philadelphia Weekly during the National Republican Convention. But this guy is more of a Mad Man. Experimenting with a loose style by using an old calligraphy pen.
