  • Step-by-Step Drawing Tutorial – Beginner Unicorn

Switched it up this week and did a quick little drawing tutorial. I figured that not everybody has paint at home, so for this one all you need is paper and a pencil (add some color with markers or crayons.) This one is dedicated to my niece Mollie! 🦄

  • Step-by-Step Painting Tutorial – Beginner Oak Tree

New step-by-step painting video up on YouTube! It’s a fun painting of a mighty oak tree; a symbol of strength, morale, resistance, and knowledge. Down here, around Charleston, we have big beautiful oak trees that line the roadways to the plantations and beaches. They create a twisted canopy of branches and leaves that spread across the roads. Charleston is also home to the biggest and oldest oak tree east of the Mississippi: The Angel Oak. 🌳

  • The Pickle Barrel

Continuing my series of places we can no longer visit, I designed an ode to the Pickle Barrel. Anyone who went to Ocean City High School, the old school school- before they built the new one, remembers the convenience store on the corner. It was a little hole in the wall with beat up soda machines on the first floor of an old shore house. You’d have to walk through the haze of smoke from all the older kids getting their morning or after school cig fix. I’d go in for a Snapple or some gum and candy. Others would grab some breakfast or a bag of chips. The Pickle Barrel was for all of us: the punks, the surfers, the hippies, the metalheads, the jocks, the art kids, the popular ones; it was our bit of freedom just before being locked up in school all day. 🥒

The design comes in a distressed look to give it that vintage feel. https://www.teepublic.com/t-shirt/8614526-pickle-barrel…

  • Step-by-Step Painting Tutorial – Beginner Beach Scene

At a friend’s request I made a little step-by-step painting video for students who are home schooled or just home from school. It’s good for adults as well, grab some wine or beer and take a drink every time my big head blocks the painting. Hey, take it easy on me- it’s my first video attempt!

  • Where the Buffalo Roam

Last week’s Bill Murray movie was Where the Buffalo Roam. I thought it was very funny and Bill played an excellent Hunter S. Thompson. Well, my only reference is Johnny Depp’s portrayal of the gonzo journalist in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas but both it felt like the same person; with quirky jerky movements, mumbling monologues into a tape recorder, and random outbursts. 🦇

Prior to filming Fear and Loathing, Murray called Depp with the advice “Be careful, or you’ll find yourself ten years from now still doing him…Make sure your next role is some drastically different guy.”

Happy New Year! I was inspired by J.C. Leyendecker’s 1920s Baby New Year illustrations for the poster style of this one. I hope Baby Yoda brings you all good health and happiness in 2020! 🍵 🐸
