  • Khruangbin

✈️ Khruangbin is the first band I saw after the pandemic years. I had also gone through a concert drought prior to that so it had been several years total, which is a long time for me not to see a show. I’d just recently discovered Khruangbin and they were playing up the street from me at Firefly Distillery. I could hear them during their warm-up from my window, it was beautiful: the echoing guitar of “Maria Tambien” reverberating over the creek out into the lowcountry. 💫 Their show was enchanting and healing, their music helped me process so much grief. Being around a group of people again, all with lifted spirits, and feeling the love of the Khru was an incredible experience. I can’t wait to see them again in a couple weeks at The Met, so I made a poster in appreciation.✌🏻

  • Imagine – John Lennon

    John Lennon – Imagine

John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’ was recorded 50 years ago today. I personally think it’s one of the most important songs ever written. The simplicity in which love and kindness towards one another is portrayed; who wouldn’t want to live in that kind of peace? ✌🏻

  • Peggy Olson

Elizabeth Moss (Peggy Olson of Mad Men)

I’m always rooting for the underdog, and there’s no better story of beating the odds than Peggy Olson’s storyline in Mad Men. Peggy starts out at Sterling Cooper as Don Draper’s secretary, surrounded by male chauvinists and a bossy Joan Holloway. Soon she works her way up to copy editor, and then leaves SCDP to be a copy chief, all the while doing things her way. I think this is my favorite Peggy moment- when she’s walking down the hall with her sunglasses on and cigarette hanging out of her mouth- she has arrived. 🕶🚬

  • The Beatles All You Need Is Love

    The Beatles

I got by in 2020 with a little help from my friends- John, Paul, George, & Ringo. Normally, I find myself drawn to Abbey Road, Sgt. Pepper’s, & The White Album for songs about peace & love to give me hope. However, I think I played Magical Mystery Tour the most last year. I feel like it’s an underrated Beatle album, I mean it’s not even technically an album but a double EP, half of which is a soundtrack to their tv film of the same name. I love every song on it; it’s The Beatles being psychedelic and experimental, riding that high from Sgt. Pepper’s, and working on the songs for Yellow Submarine at the same time. Of course, I dig all the Lewis Carroll and other literary references especially prevalent in “I Am the Walrus.” It is said that while recording Magical Mystery Tour, the band was “focusing on colour and texture as important compositional elements” and exploring the “aesthetic possibilities” of studio technology. They were also spending this time with the guru Maharishi Mahesh Yogi and practicing Transcendental Meditation. Maybe that’s why Magical Mystery Tour is so comforting. The record ends with “All You Need Is Love” and well, in the end, love is all you need.

The Beatles sang the word “LOVE” 613 times in the 229 songs that they wrote.
