  • Where the Buffalo Roam

Last week’s Bill Murray movie was Where the Buffalo Roam. I thought it was very funny and Bill played an excellent Hunter S. Thompson. Well, my only reference is Johnny Depp’s portrayal of the gonzo journalist in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas but both it felt like the same person; with quirky jerky movements, mumbling monologues into a tape recorder, and random outbursts. 🦇

Prior to filming Fear and Loathing, Murray called Depp with the advice “Be careful, or you’ll find yourself ten years from now still doing him…Make sure your next role is some drastically different guy.”

  • 365 Challenge Day 27

#365challenge today: Dreamland. Use a recent dream for what you do today. I’ve had a couple dreams of meeting Bill Murray, the other night he was hanging out with us dressed as a cowboy. Today would be a good day for that to happen.

  • It’s a Wonderful Life Aquatic!

One of my favorite movies was released 10 years ago this Christmas- The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. I did this illustration for Seattle Weekly prior to the release and got some of the colors wrong.

  • Groundhog Day

    Bill Murray (Groundhog Day)

This is another one of my illustrations that started as a Sketch of the Day idea. I’m a huge fan of Bill Murray and Groundhog Day has always been on of my favorite films of his. I was working at a movie theater when Groundhog Day came out. I was an usher at the time and part of my job was to go into the theater and check on things for a minute or two at random times. I remember checking on Groundhog Day at various times in the movie and I was so confused as to what was going on- the guy kept waking up on the same day! It all made sense when I saw the film in it’s entirety, and since then I must have seen it a couple dozen times!
